Savignon Blanc 2008

When Jules talks about Sauvignon Blanc, clouds part and celestial choirs sing.

This is the wine Jules loves because it is so expressive of the site that it’s grown. Our Sauvignon Blanc has twice won Champion Sauvignon Blanc trophy at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards - possibly a reasonable feat.

Winemakers notes

With a light lime flavour and delightful complimentary grapefruit flavours, this wine has a wonderfully rich palette at the fore. With hints of black current further citrus on the nose it is a distinct example of a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. It also has a lingering intensity that fills the mouth and ends with a dry finish.

Vinification

The pressure of a difficult harvest has enhanced the wine though left us with a smaller volume than expected. The source of the grapes for this wine – the Awatere Valley – managed to create cleaner fruit than other areas of Marlborough and consequently some well defined flavours. The grapes were harvested, pressed and cold settled over a period of 48 hours. After racking of juice lees, a long, cool fermentation with selected yeast strains took place. Post fermentation, the components were blended, stabilised and bottled with a screw cap closure to retain freshness.
