Best known for her popular Jules Taylor Wines, Jules has made rosé since 2009 (way back before EVERYONE made rosé!). This year however, she decided it was time to give it a makeover. “I just love rosé” says Jules “it signifies happiness in a glass and after all the doom and gloom of 2020 I decided I needed to focus on something fresh and positive.”
So 1st September sees her launching a new wine: The Jules Rosé. A standalone wine made from merlot grapes grown in Gisborne, it is paler in colour than previous rosés from the Jules Taylor range, and is dressed in beautiful new packaging. The bespoke illustration on the new label represents Jules’ hands-on approach in the vineyards and is a more feminine, detailed design representing Jules' attention to detail in her winemaking. Jules loves the new look: "I think it is a beautiful design that catches your eye. Who wouldn't want to turn up to a bbq with a bottle looking like that?!"
Jules is excited by the explosion in choice of rosé wines in New Zealand: “The rosé selection in New Zealand has changed so much since I started making rosé. I think it’s awesome - there's something for everyone. Today you see people enjoying rosé all year round, with and without food, guys and girls. For me that’s what it’s all about – just ordering a wine that you like rather than being governed by an old-fashioned set of wine rules.”
Food and wine do play a big part for Jules though. Although she says “I drink it with anything” she quickly comes up with a long list of tasty sounding suggestions to pair with the wine: Easy sharing plates such as charcuterie platters, or finger foods like duck tacos, or modern healthy plant based options such as cumin roasted cauliflower, chickpea and mint tabouli. Mealtimes at the Taylor household sound like a pretty mouthwatering affair!
But in her own true style, Jules doesn’t take things too seriously. “I think that’s one of the things I love so much about Rosé is that it is not a serious, fuddy duddy kind of wine. It is something that you can have some fun with. This bottle of “The Jules Rosé” is handcrafted for anyone who dares to be different and is all about celebrating your own individual sense of style. But without taking yourself too seriously of course.
