Winemakers Notes

Bright watermelon pink in colour, this Rosé is brimming with gorgeous raspberry, strawberry and red cherry aromas.The palate is fresh and juicy with bright red berry flavours and a dash of delicate spice. It has a nice balance and a dry, fruit filled finish.

AROMA & FLAVOUR

Summer berries galore! This Rosé is brimming with gorgeous raspberry, and watermelon and aromas of candied toffee. Fresh and fruity with delicious raspberry and watermelon flavours and the iconic flavours of strawberries and cream. This wine also has sweet flavours of candied toffee and a soft hint of clove. With its nice balance of acidity and dry finish, this wine is ideal as a summer’s day sipper. Serve chilled.

VINTAGE NOTES

Heading into spring temperatures in Gisborne were a few degrees higher than normal. Moisture content in the soils was extremely low in the Patutahi plateau which lead to an even bud burst in the vines. Continued below average rain fall from September to November leading into flowering, combined with high temperatures and settled weather created ideal conditions for flowering and a great fruit set. Post flowering, the warmer temperatures continued but the dry conditions gave way to frequent rainfall across the country, which meant verasion was much earlier than usual in Gisborne. Due to the strong fruit set, colour thinning was required for the Merlot to ensure yields were kept down and flavour was intense. With all of the rain that fell January to March, canopies were in excellent health all the way to harvest. This meant that even though the temperatures were warmer than normal throughout the growing season, the fruit maintained flavour intensity and good acidity coming into harvest.

VINIFICATION

Every JT Rosé, begins it’s life in the very early hours of the morning as we harvest all  of the fruit in the cool temperatures of the first few hours of the day. At the winery we quickly crush the grapes and then hold the freshly released juice in contact with the grape skins for a precise amount of time. This “time on skins” allows the bright red colours and delightful aromas found only in the skins of the grapes, this is why we allow it to infuse into the juice which is the key step to making a good Rosé! Following this, the juice was gently pressed, clarified and settled. We then cool fermented the clarified juice with a yeast selected for aromatic enhancement. The wine was then protein and cold-stabilised. To finish the process I have given this wine a light filtration to enhance its brightness and sealed it with a screw cap to lock in its fresh fruit flavours.

Serve a with watermelon and mint salad or salads with goats’ cheeses. Also a great match with raw/lightly cooked shellfish or fish. Perfect hot weather drinking, served extra chilled.

Bright, light, cerise pink with some depth and pale purple hues on the rim. The nose is softly fresh with bright and fragrant aromas of cherries and raspberries with pomegranate notes, along with an amalgam of fresh and dark herbs, red florals and mouthwatering mineral elements.  The fruit forms a deep core.  Dry to taste, the fruit is sweet and juicy with flavours of raspberries, cherries and pomegranate, along with subtle notes of fresh herbs with floral lift and thirst-quenching minerals. The fruit is bright and lively, forming a fresh, but rounded and packed core, with light, slippery acidity underlining the fruit.  The wine flows smoothly to an elegant finish.  This is a sweet-fruited dry rosé with flavours of raspberries, cherries and pomegranate, with herb and mouthwatering minerals on a rounded core with a slippery line. Match with antipasto and tapas over the next 2 years.
