Violet, poached plum and stewed tamarillo notes overlay darker hints of blackberry and vanilla compote. The nose is completed by lovely smoky, earthy spice and hints of cocoa and cinnamon from the French oak barriques. Generous and juicy on the palate, this Pinot Noir has an elegant structure embracing a beautiful balance of berry fruit and savoury flavours. Smoky oak and firm, spicy tannins leading to a long, dry finish.

"This is a stunning offering; the gloriously expressed bouquet shows dark cherry, sweet plum, toasted spice and cedar characters with a seductive savoury undertone. The palate exhibits outstanding concentration and depth, together with richly textured mouthfeel and refined tannins, finishing impressively long and velvety. Symphonic and gratifying."
96 POINTS | SAM KIM, WINE ORBIT
"Deep-tinted, bold, rich pinot noir with red-fleshed plum, dark cherry, liquorice and spicy oak flavours supported by fine, ripe tannins. Unusual intensity for a Marlborough pinot noir. Can be appreciated now but should develop well in bottle."
93 POINTS | BOB CAMPBELL, MASTER OF WINE
"Made ‘On The Quiet’, the bold 2019 vintage (5*) has a certain ‘Wow!’ factor. Matured for nine months in French oak barriques, it has dark, purple-flushed colour. Almost Syrah-like, it is packed with plummy, spicy flavours, but retains gracefulness, with fine, supple tannins."
5 STARS | MICHAEL COOPER
"From Jules Taylor’s Wrekin Vineyard located in Marlborough’s southern valley’s comes this new vintage of her On The Quiet Pinot Noir and it’s quite possibly the tastiest thing you can spend $43 on right now. Inky-dark and intensely perfumed with wild cherries, ripe rhubarb and cranberry complexity, while in the mouth it delivers a solid seam of dark cocoa, plum, graphite and soft smoky tones. The textures from sip to swallow are slippery and plush, making it a pretty saucy thing to drink."

VINEYARD NOTES
The grapes for this Pinot Noir were grown organically and biodynamically on the Wrekin Vineyard which lies in Marlborough’s Brancott Valley. Positioned on northwestern facing slopes, set in deep clay soils, this charming little vineyard was carefully managed to provide a very low-yielding, highly concentrated crop of a mix of quality Pinot Noir clones: 115, 667, 777, 10/5 and Abel.
