JULES TAYLOR OTQ SAUVIGNON BLANC 2018

In spite of the difficult vintage in Marlborough, this is a strong offering from Jules Taylor. There’s a little reduction at first, but the flinty, salty nuances actually add character to the already appealing lemon, stone fruit, red apple skin, grass and green bean notes. The palate balances a creamy texture with crunchy acidity and a salty, citrusy finish.

92 POINTS - WINE ENTHUSIAST

JULES TAYLOR OTQ SAUVIGNON BLANC 2018

"A barrel-fermented wine from the Meadowbank Vineyard (Taylor's Pass), Taylor's 2018 Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc features subtle notes of pencil shavings and wet stone layered over a backdrop of stone fruit, tangerine and fig. It's medium-bodied and gently silky on the palate, with lingering notes of petrichor on the finish."

91 POINTS - WINE ADVOCATE

JULES TAYLOR OTQ SAUVIGNON BLANC 2018

"This is gorgeously fruited and inviting on the nose showing feijoa, jalapeno, kaffir lime and lemon peel aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that's brilliantly focused and lingering. It's weighty and mouthfilling, yet bright and refreshing, finishing impressively long and delectable."

WINEMAKERS NOTES

Jules Taylor’s OTQ wines are a challenge to conventional winemaking interpretations of Marlborough signature varieties, as well as a personal indulgence for Jules.

VINEYARD NOTES

The grapes for this Sauvignon Blanc was selectively hand-picked from the Meadowbank vineyard in the Taylor Pass subregion of Marlborough.

VINIFICATION

Jules selected particular sun-kissed bunches of fruit that were basking in the sunny Meadowbank Vineyard for this special wine. Following the harvest, Jules took the grapes to the winery and whole cluster pressed them into old barriques where a fast, furious wild fermentation took place. Following primary fermentation, the wine went through a full malolactic fermentation to soften the acid profile and add layers of complexity. She then occasionally stirred the barrels over spring and summer and the wine was blended, stabilised and bottled prior to the 2019 vintage.
