FAQs

What is a single vineyard wine?

A single vineyard wine comes from a special single vineyard site. It is a wine designed to express a certain “terroir” – or unique character coming from a specific place and its unique combination of soil, aspect, microclimate, and vineyard management.

What makes single vineyard wines special?

While every wine is a snapshot of a moment in time, a single vineyard wine is a snapshot of a moment of time in a specific place. It has a more unique character than a wine blended from multiple sites. Jules loves the flavours and structure she finds in wines from the Wrekin Vineyard in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys, and the Altimarloch Vineyard, at the top of Marlborough’s Awatere Valley, and she showcases them in these special, single vineyard wines. Since they are from a single site, they are naturally limited in quantity and rarer than multi-site blended wines.

How long should I age my wine?

Aging a wine is a matter of personal taste. However Jules’ On The Quiet Single Vineyard Wines are intense, complex and elegantly balanced, and intended to be ageworthy wines. They will evolve and develop a more harmonious, savoury character in the cellar over a number of years.

Are thes wines organic?

The Wrekin Vineyard is certified as using organic and biodynamic practices, and the wine is made using organic practices in the winery, although recent vintages have not been certified as organic.

The Altimarloch vineyard is farmed using regenerative practices, but is not strictly organic.

Both vineyards and wines are certified as sustainable by the world-leading Sustainable Winegrowers NZ certification programme.

Are thes wines vegan friendly?

All of Jules’ white and rosé wines are vegan friendly, including the On The Quiet Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc.

Jules' Pinot Noirs are not appropriate for vegans, since a little egg white is added at the end of fermentation to soften the tannins in these wines. Unfortunately there is not a vegan-friendly way to do this that meets Jules' high standards.
