Jules Taylor Wines Sustainability Successes in 2025

Crafted with Sunshine from Marlborough and with love from Jules.

At Jules Taylor Wines, looking after our land, our people, and our community has always been at the heart of what we do. Sustainability isn’t something we talk about once a year — it’s part of every decision we make, every day.

In 2025, that promise grew stronger than ever.

From native plantings to renewable energy, lighter bottles to carbon‑zero partnerships, here’s a look at what we achieved together.

Growing Biodiversity From the Ground Up

Our home block vineyard has become even more alive and colourful this year.

  • We planted wildflowers between the rows, encouraging healthy soils and attracting helpful insects — a natural way to reduce disease and avoid unnecessary sprays.
  • Our wetlands restoration continued, creating a haven for birds and insects. To date, we’ve planted 1,330 native New Zealand trees and plants, reintroducing Marlborough’s native biodiversity.

Seeing more tūī and piwakawaka fluttering around the vines reminds us why this work matters.

Lower Emissions, Smarter Water Use

Our vineyards have consistently performed at or below Marlborough’s average CO₂e emissions since benchmarking began. In 2025, we also:

  • Expanded sub‑surface irrigation across two vineyards to dramatically reduce evaporation.
  • Continued to use precision irrigation meters in the third vineyard, ensuring every drop of water counts.

These improvements help us farm more efficiently while protecting our most precious natural resource.

Certified Sustainable From Start to Finish

All our grapes and winemaking processes remain fully certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ). This world‑leading programme holds us accountable for reducing water and energy use, managing waste responsibly, and eliminating unnecessary chemical inputs — and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Packaging That Treads More Lightly

In partnership with our supplier Chandler, we transitioned to extra‑lightweight glass bottles, saving 32–65 grams of glass per bottle. Lighter bottles mean:

  • Lower manufacturing emissions
  • Lower shipping emissions
  • And a significantly reduced footprint across the entire supply chain

We also moved The Better Half wine labels to 100% recycled paperstock, and all our cartons are now FSC‑certified.

Small changes, big impact.

Powered by Sunshine

At our Marlborough office, solar panels generated around 7.3MWh in 2025 — about 30% of our power needs. The rest comes from Ecotricity, a Toitū‑certified renewable energy provider.

We’re also lucky to work with partners who share our values:

  • Wineworks NZ, our bottler, is New Zealand’s first CarbonZero‑certified bottler.
  • NZ Wineries, where our wines are made, now holds Toitū Carbon Reduce certification and continues to invest in energy‑efficient improvements.

Together, we’re reducing our footprint at every step of the winemaking process.

Offsetting Emissions — and Creating Community Impact

Thanks to your online purchases, we’ve now offset 9,609 kg of CO₂ via CarbonClick, supporting environmental projects in New Zealand and abroad.

We’re also proud to contribute to local causes via Trees That Count and Picton Dawn Chorus, helping regenerate native forests and protect vulnerable wildlife.

Your purchases genuinely make a difference to our region.

Caring for Our People, Too

Sustainability isn’t just environmental — it’s human.

  • Our four‑day work week, introduced in 2021, continues to support our team’s mental health and work–life balance.
  • We promote moderation and responsible enjoyment of wine, following all alcohol promotion guidelines, providing safe‑transport options at events and sharing healthy food‑pairing ideas.

Our community is an important part of our terroir.

A Future We Can Raise a Glass To

As we look toward 2026 and beyond, our focus remains the same: make beautiful, tasty wines while protecting the land and the people who make them possible.

To everyone who enjoys our wines and supports our efforts: thank you. You’re part of this journey too.

Cheers,
Jules & the JTW team xoxo
